Not exactly April showers

Catie, Riley and I don’t want to live here any more. We’re open to offers from just about anywhere. Florida, California, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Maine, Vancouver, Halifax, Colorado. Right now we’re colder than Anchorage, Alaska.

The wind is howling and I can barely see down the street for the blowing snow. An ominous red wind warning scrolled across the top of our  weather channel all day and it’s finally here – with gusts up to 81 KM/H.

I check the calendar. Yes indeed, it is April 8. Yes indeed, just yesterday I went for a run at noon and didn’t wear a jacket and even perspired a bit from the sun. Young people wore flipflops and tiny t-shirts and sat outside. After work I took Catie and Riley for a leash-walk wearing summertime sunglasses. Riley trotted and picked up sticks; Catie was so delighted that I had to jog to keep up with her. Once she gets her rhythm she moves faster than she used to with four legs.

So what do we do, you ask, when it snows in April in Edmonton Alberta Canada?

  1. Well, I’m not sure what 81KM per hour means but it sounds like a lot! …like a hurricane!

Vegas is dirt cheap to live in right now! Every 3rd house in foreclosure. (not really kidding either)

Way to go Catie! Keep jogging!

Cold weather AND wind. That is a bummer. Usually it is one or the other in Alberta, at least southern Alberta.

I hate to rub it in, but it is beautiful in Winterpeg these days! Temps of 12-16 (yep, Celsius for all you yanks and it ain’t bad) and no wind.

If you call westjet in the next 30 min, you can come to Warm Sunny Winnipeg for their $72 seat sale! Cool!

I hate to rub it in, but I LOVE hearing about crappy weather in Alberta!

  3. Hmm. Vegas. I didn’t have a great experience when I was there the first weekend of this past December. I fractured my ankle stepping off a curb on the way to the START line of the Rock and Roll LasVegas half-marathon.

And Tazzie, Winterpeg?? We get crap weather a lot but I’ve heard you have mosquitoes the size of black birds there. 🙂

Coloradah might be cool though. Mountains, rivers, country roads. Blizzards in April?

  4. Fractured your ankle before running a half-marathon! Maybe your Canadian friends are buying that one! But I ain’t !

    ‘Fess up, you were drunk!!!!!!

It’s Vegas! We don’t do anything healthy!

    Tazzie,
Methinks when someone writes, “I hate to rub it in…” twice in one post, I kinda think they actually, “Like to rub it in” !

  5. Napping is always good! Your weather sounds a lot like Colorado! One day it is 70 and sunny the next it is 30 and snowing! Yuck! Hope the warm weather comes back soon!

    XOXO

  6. I have to say, first of all, what beautiful goldens you have – so sweet – I just love that picture!

I hate to rub it in (using Tazzie’s phrase) but here in LA, we had temps today in the high 70’s /low 80’s with a nice cool breeze and lots of sunshine. Maybe that should be a double rub it in, in which case, I really mean to say that I LIKE to rub it in. And the best part is that we don’t get mosquitos, whether they be gnat size or black bird size, but hate to rub it in…..

So I guess Carmen you have several options here – from healthy clean Colorado to unhealthy, unsavory, drunkin’ fests in Las Vegas or maybe it’s LA where we get lots of sunshine (and did I mention Winnepeg?)

That’s great that you have to jog to keep up with Catie now – I’m finding the same thing with Mackenzie – she just runs along and I literally have to run to keep up with her. It brings back so many memories of when I did run with her all the time and she always had me keeping up with her. I just love that now!

Give your goldens a big hug and kiss from us!

  7. Kami – thank you.

My husband has a not-so-secret desire to live in California.

The wind was hideous all day; so strong that Riley, to his surprise and my chagrin, got a little pee on himself from lifting his leg.

    All around yuck I say.

I’m hoping for warmer and calmer weather soon too, Dillon and Rhys.

P.S. Cometdog – it’d be a way better story if I’d been drunk. Excusable, really.

  8. Yup – no doubt about it, Carmen, the universe has been stirring up the …. debris. Yeah, that’s it – the “debris”….

When we say “there’s something in the air….” – days like yesterday and today that could mean that there are flying cows, cow patties, or, at least, rabbits. DUCK !

  9. Wow – 81mph winds! That makes our windy city look like a breeze. Come on to Chicago – the breeze here is nothin’ compared to what you had!

Of course naps are always in season in our book…
